Improspections2011

international improvisation festival, 5th edition

Realized in collaboration with Kitt Johnson

Kitt Johnson is a renowned Danish dancer and choreographer, recipient of multiple awards, artistic leader of the X-act Company, organizer and curator of the international Mellemrum – site-specific solo festival, which always takes place in distinctive, hidden, forsaken, known and less known locations in Copenhagen (http://www.mellemrum.info).

The aim of this collaboration is to create a framework for examination and dialogue about the possible ways of using performing art and interaction with the public space in order to deepen perception, stimulate communication and ‘get under the skin’ of the Maksimir neighbourhood; to observe its flow, make it visible and enter into dialogue with it; to talk about the city we live in through dance …

Involving young Croatian authors in this project affirms openness and creates a framework for the creative articulation of body and idiosyncrasies, as well as for the performing encounter as a public gesture. A one-week creative process resulted in a number of performing minatures, all of which were results of individual exploration and experience of their authors, related to the specific public space.
